This policy explains what information Newbie Place (newbieplace.com) collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
Who we are
Newbie Place is a website publishing guides for foreign residents of South Korea. It is operated by an individual, not a company.

What we collect
Email signup
If you subscribe to updates, we collect the email address you give us, and the date and page on which you subscribed. Signups are handled by Hostinger Reach and the tagDiv Opt-In Builder. We use your address only to send you the content you asked for. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
Spam and abuse prevention
The WordPress login, registration, and password-reset forms on this site are protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which collects hardware and software information and behavioural data in order to distinguish humans from bots. This is subject to Google’s own privacy policy and terms of service. Our email signup form is not protected by reCAPTCHA.
Server logs
Our host, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs including IP addresses and request times, for security and troubleshooting.
What we do not collect
We do not run Google Analytics or any other visitor analytics on this site. Comments are disabled. We do not ask for your name, phone number, address, immigration status, or any other personal detail in order to read anything here. We do not sell or rent any data we hold.
We use Google Search Console, which reports how this site appears in Google’s search results. It tells us which search terms led people here, in aggregate. It does not collect anything from you while you are on this site.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses them for spam prevention (reCAPTCHA) and, if you log in as an author, to keep you logged in. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site remains readable without them.
Embedded content from other sites
Some pages embed content from elsewhere — RSS feeds, PDFs, videos. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website, which may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with it. We have no control over what those sites do.
Where your data goes
Email data is processed by Hostinger. reCAPTCHA data is processed by Google. Both may store or process data outside South Korea, including in the United States. We do not transfer your data to anyone else.
How long we keep it
Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Server logs are kept according to our host’s standard schedule.
Your rights
Under South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and under the GDPR if you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to ask us:
- what personal data we hold about you
- to correct it if it is wrong
- to delete it
- to stop processing it
- to receive a copy of it
Write to NewbiePlaceinko@gmail.com and we will respond. If you are unhappy with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Personal Information Protection Commission of Korea, or with your local data protection authority in the EEA.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted here.
